Matthew is co-founder and CEO of CloudFlare. CloudFlare’s mission is to build a better Internet. Matthew wrote his first computer program at age seven when his mom would sneak him into university computer science courses. He went on to study English Literature and Computer Science in college before, oddly, skipping out on the first Internet boom to instead attend law school.

After finishing law school, Matthew worked as an attorney for one day before joining a Chicago-based tech startup. He went on to co-found Unspam Technologies, an anti-spam startup where he continues to serve as Chairman. Since then, Matthew has been an adjunct professor of law at the John Marshall Law School and co-creator of Project Honey Pot, the largest open source community tracking online fraud and abuse. He started CloudFlare with Michelle Zatlyn, and Lee Holloway in 2009.

In 2013, Matthew made the San Francisco Business Times’s 40 under 40 list and CloudFlare was named the most innovative internet and network company by the Wall Street Journal. He is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, winner of the 2011 Tech Fellow Award, and serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Information Technology and Privacy Law. Along with being a regular contributor to TechCrunch and PandoDaily, Matthew has spoken at the RSA conference, Black Hat Summit, Web Summit, and is a frequent panelist for TechCrunch Disrupt.

On the side, Matthew is a certified ski instructor, former mountain guide, and regular attendee of the Sundance Film Festival.

Sanjay Poonen joined VMware in August 2013, and is responsible for worldwide sales, services, alliances, marketing and communications.

Previously, Poonen held the role of executive vice president and general manager for the End-User Computing business unit at VMware. In this role, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, marketing and sales across all of VMware’s End-User Computing offerings.

Before VMware, Poonen was president and corporate officer of Platform Solutions and the Mobile Division at SAP AG. During his more than seven years at SAP, Poonen held several executive-level roles in product development and sales, including leading SAP’s Analytics, Big Data, Mobile and all Industry Business Units, driving many solutions to industry-leading market positions.

Prior to SAP, Poonen held executive roles at Symantec, VERITAS and Informatica, and he began his career as a software engineer at Microsoft, followed by Apple.

Poonen serves on the Board of Directors of Infor and the Advisory Board of Docusign.

Poonen holds two patents as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he graduated a Baker Scholar; a master’s degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University; and a bachelor’s degree in computer science, math and engineering from Dartmouth College, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Guy Diedrich is a member of Cisco’s Office of the Executive Chairman, contributing to Cisco’s Country Digitization Acceleration. He is currently working with government and industry leaders in countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas to digitize the public and private sectors in order to increase GDP, create millions of next-generation jobs, and develop sustainable innovation ecosystems.

Prior to his current role at Cisco Systems, Dr. Diedrich was a Vice Chancellor at the Texas A&M University System, where he was responsible for research, commercialization, federal government relations, state government relations and strategic initiatives. Before joining Texas A&M, Dr. Diedrich served as President and CEO of GRA Inc., a software development and consulting company that he co-founded and grew from a start-up to a firm employing more than 130 professionals. The company was sold to a publicly-traded technology company. Dr. Diedrich holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, a Masters degree from the University of Cambridge (Kings College) and a Ph.D. from Swansea University where he studied the economics of trust in organizations. Don Tapscott, Executive Chairman of the Blockchain Research Institute, is one of the world’s leading authorities on the impact of technology on business and society. He has authored 16 books, including Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything, which has been translated into over 25 languages.

Don’s most recent and ambitious book was co-authored with his son, Alex Tapscott, a globally-recognized investor, advisor and speaker on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrencies is Changing the World was published in May 2016 and is, according to Harvard Business School’s Clay Christensen, “the book, literally, on how to survive and thrive in this next wave of technology-driven disruption.” The paperback version of the book, updated with new material covering recent developments in the blockchain industry, was published in June 2018.

In 2017, Don and Alex co-founded the Blockchain Research Institute, whose 80+ projects are the definitive investigation into blockchain strategy, use-cases, implementation challenges and organizational transformations.

Don is a member of the Order of Canada and is ranked the 2nd most influential Management Thinker and the top Digital Thinker in the world by Thinkers50. He is an Adjunct Professor at INSEAD and Chancellor of Trent University in Ontario. It is hard to imagine anyone who has been more prolific, profound, and influential in explaining today’s technological revolutions and their impact on the world.

In this role Smith is responsible for the company’s corporate, external, and legal affairs. He leads a team of more than 1,400 business, legal and corporate affairs professionals working in 55 countries. These teams are responsible for the company’s legal work, its intellectual property portfolio, patent licensing business, corporate philanthropy, government affairs, public policy, corporate governance, and social responsibility work. He is also Microsoft’s chief compliance officer. Smith plays a key role in representing the company externally and in leading the company’s work on a number of critical issues including privacy, security, accessibility, environmental sustainability and digital inclusion, among others.

He has played a leading role within Microsoft and in the IT sector on government surveillance, privacy, intellectual property, immigration and computer science education policy issues. He has played a leadership role locally and nationally on numerous charitable, business and legal initiatives. In 2013 he was named by the National Law Journal as one of the 100 most influential lawyers in the United States. In 2014, the New York Times called Smith “a de facto ambassador for the technology industry at large.”

In addition to his work at Microsoft, Smith is active in several civic and legal organizations and in the broader technology industry. In March 2015, Smith joined the Netflix board of directors. He also works to advance several significant diversity and pro bono initiatives, serving as chair of the board of directors of Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) and as chair of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). In addition, Smith chairs the board of the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship program, at the appointment of the governor.

Smith grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin, where Green Bay was the big city next door. He attended Princeton University, where he met his wife, Kathy (also a lawyer), and graduated summa cum laude with a concentration in international relations and economics. He earned his J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law and studied international law and economics at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Prior to joining Microsoft, he was an associate and then partner at the Washington, D.C.-based firm of Covington and Burling, where he is still remembered as the first attorney in the long history of the firm to insist (in 1986) on having a personal computer on his desk as a condition for accepting a job offer. Professor Alex ‘Sandy’ Pentland directs the MIT Connection Science and Human Dynamics labs and previously helped create and direct the MIT Media Lab and the Media Lab Asia in India. He is one of the most-cited scientists in the world, and Forbes recently declared him one of the “7 most powerful data scientists in the world” along with Google founders and the Chief Technical Officer of the United States. He has received numerous awards and prizes such as the McKinsey Award from Harvard Business Review, the 40th Anniversary of the Internet from DARPA, and the Brandeis Award for work in privacy.

He is a founding member of advisory boards for Google, AT&T, Nissan, and the UN Secretary General, a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded more than a dozen companies including social enterprises such as the Data Transparency Lab, the Harvard-ODI-MIT DataPop Alliance and the Institute for Data Driven Design. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and leader within the World Economic Forum.

Over the years Sandy has advised more than 60 PhD students. Almost half are now tenured faculty at leading institutions, with another one-quarter leading industry research groups and a final quarter founders of their own companies. Together Sandy and his students have pioneered computational social science, organizational engineering, wearable computing (Google Glass), image understanding, and modern biometrics. His most recent books are Social Physics, published by Penguin Press, and Honest Signals, published by MIT Press.

Interesting experiences include dining with British Royalty and the President of India, staging fashion shows in Paris, Tokyo, and New York, and developing a method for counting beavers from space.

Mr. Wang has organized and supervised IPO underwritings for over 40 Chinese companies in both domestic and overseas markets. He is the financial consultant on restructuring, financing, M&A and IPO for many leading companies in China. He had worked in a number of international corporations including Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, the World Bank in Washington D.C. and the Chase Bank in New York. Mr. Wang also serves as the economic advisor in several ministerial and provincial governments in China as well as independent director for several listed companies.

Mr. Wang received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in finance in China, a Ph.D. in economics from Fordham University in the United States. He is the author of many books and journal articles, also a well-known lecturer as he has given seminars and lectures in many universities including CEIBS and Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.

Evan Fraser did a PhD and post-doc at the University of British Columbia and worked at the University of
Leeds in the UK between 2003 and 2010. He is currently the director of the Arrell Food Institute, a
Professor of Geography and holds the Tier I Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security at the
University of Guelph.

He is also a fellow of Trudeau Foundation, the Royal Canadian Geographical
Society and an elected member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars. His work is on
challenges to food security over the next two generations, during which time population growth and
climate change threaten to make food harder to produce and more expensive to buy. He has worked
extensively with climate modelers, economists, ecologists, anthropologists, and journalists to explore
possible solutions to this global challenge. During his career he has played a leadership role in securing
over $100M in funding for topics related to food, agriculture, technology and sustainability including
being the scientific lead in the University of Guelph’s “Food from Thought” initiative, a $76.6M grant
from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.

In addition to over 90 academic articles and book
chapters, he has written two popular books on food and sustainable agriculture and has had articles published by CNN.com, theguardian.com, ForeignAffairs.com, The Ottawa Citizen and the Walrus. His web video series on “feeding nine billion” has been watched over 425,000 times, he has self-published a graphic novel called #FoodCrisis about a fictitious food crisis that hits North America in the 2020s. Dr. Fraser has also created a card game about global food security. The videos, the graphic novel and the card game have been pulled together in a series of teacher-friendly high school lesson plans that are used in classrooms around the world.

Kavita is a recipient of UN social finance innovator award in 2015 for being an integral part of the founding green bond team at The World Bank. At ConsenSys, Kavita heads the unique VC-hedge fund, investing in next-generation blockchain technologies revolutionizing our current systems. Previously she has been running over $250M fund aligned with UN SDGs infusing capital in technologies providing first time or low-cost access around the world. She has set up innovative investment funds across East Africa, Middle East, South Asia and recently in the US for past 16 years through World Bank, IFC, McKinsey and The Schmidt Family office. She founded and headed World Bank’s first innovation fund in 2010. Rod Beckstrom is a well-known cybersecurity authority, Internet leader and expert on organizational leadership. He is the former President and CEO of ICANN, the founding Director of the U.S. National Cybersecurity Center and co-author of the best-selling book The Starfish and the Spider: The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations. He is a frequent international media commentator and public speaker. Rod currently serves as an advisor to multinational companies and international institutions. Mr. Beckstrom is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Council on Future of Government.

Before joining Philip Morris in 2012, Mr. Firestone was Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs and General Counsel of Kraft Foods Inc., where he served since 2003. From 1988 to 2003, Mr. Firestone held numerous positions in the law departments of Philip Morris Companies Inc. and Philip Morris International Inc., lastly as President External Affairs & General Counsel of PMI. Mr. Firestone started his legal career as an attorney at Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC. He received a BA, magna cum laude, in Romance Languages and Philosophy from Washington & Lee University and a JD, magna cum laude, from Tulane University School of Law.

Mr. Firestone is a co-founder and the chairman of the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession; Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School; a frequent speaker on international antitrust law, diversity and in-house legal practice; and a recipient of the Director’s Roundtable Distinguished General Counsel award.

A graduate of the Yverdon Engineering School and the Swiss Technical Union, in 2008 Marco Simeoni, a born entrepreneur, founded one of Switzerland’s leading mid-sized companies, Veltigroup. After meeting Stève Ravussin and Franck David, he committed to a one-design multihull project and created a championship. Environmentally-aware, Simeoni saw it as a showcase for promoting a cause close to his heart: water and its conservation. Thus the “Race for Water” foundation was created in 2010 to inform, share and take action for the conservation of water and our oceans in particular.

In 2015, fully dedicated to the foundation, he personally participated in the “Race for Water Odyssey”, to get a first-hand global vision of plastic pollution in our oceans. His 9 months at sea gave him valuable insight: plastic waste is everywhere and it is unrealistic to consider cleaning it up in the open ocean. We must quickly take action on land and deal with plastic waste before it enters the waterways. The foundation’s new mission is set: identifying, promoting and implementing solutions that give end-of-life plastics a value and creating new sources of income for the people most affected by this pollution.

Beth is Cofounder and CEO of Riff Learning Inc, a scrappy AI startup out of MIT that measures conversational dynamics in order to help people build situational and social awareness, especially when they collaborate. Beth’s philosophy is that people learn best from each other, and learning fosters both personal growth and organizational innovation and change. She teaches IT Strategies to MBAs at Boston University, where her students work in small, peer learning groups throughout the course, and learning innovation in Media Ventures at the MIT Media Lab. Prior roles include VP Product for edX, VP Software Product Management for Pearson Education, and senior engineering and product management positions at Mathsoft and PTC. Through her consulting practice, Geeklight LLC, she also advises education, publishing, and technology clients on strategy, vision and execution for end-to-end online learning solutions that meet business needs.
